Coraline (PG)

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

"I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted just like that, and it didn't mean anything?"

- Coraline

While exploring her new home, a girl named Coraline discovers a secret door, behind which lies an alternate world that closely mirrors her own but. She rejoices in her discovery, until Other Mother and the rest of her parallel family try to keep her there forever. Coraline must use all her resources and bravery to make it back to her own family and life.

Other Mother's Dinner: There were a lot of meals to choose from when it came to this movie but who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner! Its my favorite meal of the day so I jumped on the chance to have it as part of this menu. The second time Coraline goes to her other mothers house she has this delicious meal waiting for her. It consisted of waffles, scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, and strawberries. There was even a blueberry muffin but because we are having cupcakes for dessert I decided to leave this one out but feel free to include it to this delicious spread. You can find the recipe for these delicious fluffy waffles @wellplated.

ALT: If time is an issue or you don't have a waffle maker you can just grab some thick and fluffy frozen Eggo's

Pink Palace Lemonade with Mouse Droppings: The apartment that Coraline and her family moved into was called the Pink Palace Apartments and along with some neighbors the house is also shared with many many mice (yes eww!). I used Country time Pink Lemonade (delicious!) and added chia seeds for the mouse droppings.

Welcome Home Cupcakes: Another time Coraline stops by other mothers house she of course has another delicious spread out for her, among other food she has these chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting and a cherry on top. They just looked so good and I was able to find someone who made some that looked just like them. You can find the recipe for these @homemadeinthekitchen. ALT: If time is an issue serve some popcorn instead and/or grab a bag of cotton candy from the #99centstore. These treats are also in the movie and you can never go wrong with cotton candy when it comes to kids.

Q&A with the kids

1. Do you think Coraline's parents were loving? Why or why not

2. What kind of person would you become if you got everything you wanted?

3. What kinds of food would your other mother have waiting for you?
